Draft 2
FADE IN.
1.  Int – Bare room – Night.
(EXTREAM CLOSE UP) PAULS eyes are the only thing that we can see. They are starring ahead intensely. It is dark room so the whites of his eyes are starring out at the camera.
PAUL BARNES (V.O)
Choices in life can lead to many things. There like forks in a continuing road. Take the left you end up in one destination, take the right you end up in a completely different destination. Your choices you make define you, they make us who we are.
(EXTREAM CLOSE UP) PAULS face appears in the screen. His face is not registering any emotion. He is staring straight ahead as though he is in a different world.
PAUL BARNES (V.O)
You build your life on the decisions that you make every day. Weather to have take away or to cook a balanced meal. Weather to smoke that first cigarette or to say no. to walk away from the offer of drugs and the bet or to shake their hand and make the deal.
(CLOSE UP) Now see PAULS tops of his shoulders in the shot as we see part of the room. We can see a little light coming in through a window. It appears as though he is in the middle of nowhere. He is still just looking ahead. The camera starts to turn around PAULS face. We see something red on the side of his face.
PAUL BARNES (V.O)
There all forks in our existence road we call our lives. As an individual I have made choices that have been the wrong ones. Ones that have not only damaged me but also the ones that I held close to my heart. I end up in situations. Places that I shouldn’t be in… Felt emotions that I should not have felt… emotions I should never have placed on others.
(MID-SHOT) We now see all of PAULS shoulders in this shot to see him breathing slowly and shallow. We see more of the room and see that he appears to be on his own and in the middle of the room. Not being able to move.
PAUL BARNES (V.O)
I was the one that made you give up. I made you make that choice. I made you choose between life and death. I made you choose that fork. I was the one that killed you. (A tear falls from PAUL’S eye)
(LONG SHOT) You see all of Paul, he is sitting in a chair in the middle of a bare room. He has his hands behind him and his feet tied together. There is a little blood trickling down the side of his face, tears are falling down his eyes. There is something laying behind him. Another piece of rope on his lap.
PAUL BARNES (V.O)
And what do I have to now? Nothing. Nothing but looking back at my road to see regret and death and forward to see no more forks. Just a dark bare room where I am tied up with my choices in life.

Draft 1
FADE IN.
1.  Int – Bare room – Night.
A dark bare room comes into sight. It appears to be very small but all four walls are hard to see in the dim light. There appears to be a window on the far wall that is letting in a small amount of light through the leaves of the bush and tree outside. There is a chair in the middle of the room with a women tied up. Her clothes are torn and dirty. They were once stylish.
P.O.V SHOT. CAROLYN SHARPE slowly wakes up. She comes too slowly. Everything appears fuzzy in the dim light, slowly things come into focus as her eyes a just to the lack of light. There is nothing in the room around her apart from a coffee table just out of her reach. She is suddenly aware that she is tied to the chair tightly. She looks down at herself to see her feet are tied too. She wriggles and moves, the chair falls over and she manages to loosen the rope and get free. She lies on the floor for a few seconds panting. CAROLYN then stands up and walks cautiously over to the coffee table. She sees a bit of paper, picks it up and unfolds it to read ‘What’s your choice?’ Carolyn raises her head and blinks.
CUT TO BLACK.

FADE IN.
2.  Int – Carolyn’s house – Night.
CAROLYN walks into her apartment, kicking off her heels and throwing her bag down in the side, a packet of cigarettes and a lighter fall out on the counter. She places her shopping bags down next to her handbag.
CAROLYN SHARPE (V.O)
My day was like none other. I had been to work. Made my money and got myself home. Nothing too out of the ordinary, I had closed deals at work, made sure that I had got the boss the coffee and did my kissing ass for the day, nothing more than anyone else in the office. It hadn’t been a particular stressing day, but I had felt the need to do a little retail therapy on the way home.
(CAROLYN walks to the kitchen and pours herself a glass of wine and then goes to her bedroom. She turns on her music and opens her wardrobe to show a wide range of clothes. She picks out a dress and some heels and begins to get ready for her night out)

CAROLYN SHARPE (V.O)
I had a night out planned with my girls but they had failed me, but this was not going to stop me from enjoying a night out. I had it all planned, go to my local, tipsy of course, meet up with, a ‘special’ friend. And enjoy my night how I knew best.
3.  Int – Local pub – Night.
CAROLYN is sitting at the bar with a man. They are drunk and laughing. They lean in closer and talk in hushed tones.
CAROLYN SHARPE (V.O)
I have always enjoyed the opposite sex’s company a little more then I probably should, but what can a woman do. Can’t go turning down drinks from our friends now can we? I was never short of cash. I worked hard for what I earned, and although I didn’t have a future plan for saving money for anything in particular I didn’t feel as though I needed one. All I wanted was the life that I currently lived.
(The man that CAROLYN is sitting with at the bar looks about himself for a second, hand in his pocket he turns back to CAROLYN and takes out a small bag filled with white powder. He casually passes it to CAROLYN who smiles at him.)
CAROLYN SHARPE (V.O)
In fact I had plenty of money to throw about without thinking about the consequences of what I was doing to any part of me, my career and also to my body and mind. You only live once and all that. I believed in having fun foremost and then dealing with anything later.
(CAROLYN and the man stand up and walk out of the pub, CAROLYN stumbles a little into someone else in the pub, mumbling a quick sorry. He just looks at her and nods. She then is taken out the pub by her friend.)
4.  EXT – Outside a club – Night.
CAROLYN is stumbling along the street, trying to use her mobile but she is far too drunk and high to be able to make sense of anything.
CAROLYN SHARPE (V.O)
Many people have tried to make me see that my actions are not the right way of having fun and that there is always another choice to be made when it comes to the decisions of life. I suppose they are right. I shouldn’t take drugs, I should save my money instead of wasting it on cigarettes and countless pointless items that I buy every day.
(CAROLYN stumbles across the road. The camera stays still and a man in a hoodie and big jacket walks past, glances over his shoulder and follows CAROLYN across the road. CAROLYN bends over suddenly to try and throw up. The man comes behind her and knocks her off her feet and drags her backwards into an alley.)

(BLACK AND WHITE)The day is played backwards quickly. It is shown in reverse right back to the start of the day.
FADE OUT.

5.  Int – Bare room – Night.
A dark bare room comes into sight. It appears to be very small but all four walls are hard to see in the dim light. There appears to be a window on the far wall that is letting in a small amount of light through the leaves of the bush and tree outside.
P.O.V SHOT. CAROLYN sees a bit of paper, picks it up and unfolds it to read ‘What’s your choice? Continue. Change.’
CAROLYN SHARPE (V.O)
I knew now that I had to make the biggest choice of all choices in life. I realised that not all choices are as easy as they appear when written in black and white on paper.

Similar Products - Linking chracters to theroy.

There are four different therio's behind chracters in thriller films. The four different therois are:
  1. Goffman.
  2. Propp.
  3. Campbell, Fletcher and Greenhill.
  4. Bishop.
I would say that my character, Carolyn Sharpe, would best fit into Propp's theroy.

Propps theroy
The vilian - Struggles against the hero.
The dispatcher - The character who makes the lack known and sends the hero off.
The (magical) helper - Helps the hero in the quest.
The princess or prize - the hero deserves her/him throughout that but is unable to marry them because of an unfair evil, normally this is the villian, the story finnishes when the hero marries her/him, which means thay have defeated the villian.
Her/his father - gives the task to the hero, identifies the false hero, marries the hero, often sought for during the narrative. Propp noted that functionally, the princess and the father can not be clearly distinguished.
The donor -  prepares the hero or gives the hero some magical object.
The hero or victim/seeker hero - reacts to the donor, weds the princess.
False hero -  takes credit for the hero’s actions or tries to marry the princess.

Out of all these characters that Propps has identified in his theory of thriller characters i would describe Paul as the villian. I would say this because of her past, present and how he now does not have much of a future then what his present is because of his actions in the past.

Similar Products - Misery Chracters.

Paul Sheldon
Paul Sheldon is an independant author, who has been highly successfull with his many books about his famous character Misery Chastain. He writes them all at the silver creek lodge in western Colorado. This is his 'routine' that he does with each and every one of his books. He also only prints one copy of his books and has a glass of champagne, a cigarette and a match brought to him every time he completes a book, because in his mind this will bring him the luck he needs to get the book published. This indicates that Paul Sheldon is a highly suppistious man. So when he reaches the end of his next novel (one set away from his chracter of misery) he does not think that there is any problem with him traveling back to his publishers in bad weather. This proves to be the wrong thing to do as he looses control of the car and ends up in a nasty accident where someone comes to his rescue and saves him just in time. Paul wakes up in a strange house where a lady has been looking after him. She says that she is an ex nurse and therefore Sheldon shows another of his personality features of being trusting. Through out the time that Paul spends in the company of Annie (the ex nurse) the audience learn alot about his persona and also the chracters ethics and morals.
Paul is shown to be someone who trusts highly in people and also to always have time for them, especially if they are a fan of his work. This also shows that he is the type of man that tries to make the best of any situation he finds himself in. This is shown through him obeying and residing to his fate that Annie is going to be looking after him so therefore he has to do what she asks for in return. He is also a man that knows how to look after himself and to get himself out of any place that he beleives will not be gppd for himself. This is shown when he tries to escape for the house that has become his prison by using objects he finds around the house to help him to escape.
I think the chracter of Paul is intelligant at times, as he is a writer and does eventually manage to escape. However, he is lacking in common sence. He goes out in bad weather when most people would stay where they are and ring the person to tell them. And when he tries to escape he hides the knife and the pills in an obvious place so that it was not difficult for Annie to find things. But overall, he is a good man and the protagonist character in which you, as an audce, sympathaseise with.

Annie Wilkes
Annie is an intriguing character. She is an exnurse living on her own, in a incrediably secluded house where she spends her time reading Paul Sheldons books about a chracter named Misery. She has read everyone of his books and classes herself as his number one fan. Annie is a chracter that can be described as two faced. She has a split personality. When we first meet her she is looking after Paul, who has had a nasty accident, this shows to the audience that she appears to be a caring person who likes to look after people and allow them to depend on her.
You can also see that her chracter is very devoting, as she is talking to Paul about how much she loves his books and you get the feeling that she will do absolutly anything for him as she appears to love him. And then, quite suddenly, we see the other side to her personality. She gets angry with Paul's new book (as he is taking a step away for misery), she becomes very violent towards him. She demands him to bring the chracter Misery back to life.
Later on in the film her obsession for the chracter becomes her un-doing. She takes this obbsession to bring back her beloved chracter. When Paul becomes well enough to move around he tries to escape. Annie finds out that he is trying to escape so ties him up and breaks his ankles. Through this her vioce stays calm which makes the chracter come accross as even more phsycotic. She tried to drug Paul so that he will stay with her as he will not know what is going on around him. This shows that she is planning ahead and knows how to get her own way.
Her morals and ethics extend to her passion of the books and there character, Misery. This shows that she is a very self-centered person. She does know how to get her own way though which shows she is intelligant and inderpendant.
I think the character of Annie has got server mental disabilities. This comes from the phsycotic way that she is, it takes a very messed up person to be able to do the things that she did to not only Paul but also killing the policeman and then as we find out killing the children when she used to be a nurse. I think she has also been denied the help that she is in despreate need of after the children. I think that this may have prevented anything else from happening.
